Sefer Yetzirah — The Book of Formation, also known as The Book of Creation, is a foundational work of Jewish mysticism and the Kabbalah tradition. Traditionally associated with Avraham Avinu, it explores the formation of the universe through the ten sefirot, the twenty-two Hebrew letters, and the thirty-two paths of wisdom. Three mother letters, seven doubles, and twelve simple letters articulate its cosmology. This annotated English edition brings together two complete versions of the treatise, including the Gra Version, preserving their differences in wording, order, and correspondences between world, time, and the human being. The volume then presents the commentaries of HaGra, the Vilna Gaon, Ramban, Nahmanides, and Ra’avad, major names in the transmission and interpretation of Kabbalah. Their expositions examine Hebrew letters, divine names, creation, knowledge, and the structure of the sefirot, opening distinct historical perspectives on the same passages. Five books in one volume, with transliterated technical terms, 1,173 explanatory notes, 13 captioned original diagrams, and one cover illustration. Separate numbering and continuous footnotes support close textual study. The introduction discusses the Hebrew sources, editorial tradition, and reception of the commentaries. For readers of Jewish Kabbalah, religious philosophy, and Hebrew symbolism, this edition brings text and commentary together while preserving the complexity of their interpretive traditions.
